Continuing the first production’s exploration of Hsinchu’s landscapes and Hakka culture, Flaneur further investigates how traditional folk dance might be reinterpreted and renewed within a contemporary context.

Artistic Director Lin-Lin Yang, who choreographed the first section, Greeting the Dawn, and the second section, Verdant Breath, in Impressions of the Bamboo Country: Four Scenes, continued this creative inquiry in the second production. For Flaneur, she choreographed the opening section, Rising Wind, and the concluding section, Wandering Within.

Lei Dance Theater also expanded the creative team by inviting choreographers from different backgrounds to draw inspiration from the natural landscape of Hsinchu and the historical passage of time. Guest Choreographer Chu-Ying Ku returned after several previous collaborations with the company, bringing an established artistic understanding to the process. Malaysian independent choreographer Chih-Wei Chien was also invited to contribute a different cultural perspective and creative approach.

Another section was created by the company’s Resident Choreographer Cheng-Yen Huang. Under the artistic direction of Lin-Lin Yang, these choreographers—each with a distinct creative and dance background—worked together to shape Flaneur.
