Lei Dance Theater was founded in 2017 and has grown rapidly since. In 2018, it was selected as the “Outstanding Supporting Team of Dance in Hsinchu County”. From this point, they gained momentum year over year to develop their unique characteristics and eye-catching performances. Starting from 2019, LTD began receiving regular subsidies from the National Culture and Art Foundation. This led to an invitation of their 2020 work “RESONANCE” to participate in the Taoyuan Iron Rose Art Festival at Taoyuan Exhibition Center. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. In 2022, the work- GO WITH THE…- was invited to perform on the Creative Evolution Platform, and is currently in contact with multiple counties, cities and venues for a performance tour plan.

 

LDT originated in Hsinchu, Taiwan. While attracting outstanding local dancers from the Hsinchu area, LDT has also invited young choreographers to co-produce programs in recent years. This has appealed to professional dancers across the nation and has influenced the working environment of both creators and dancers. The curiosity of the choreographers led them to learn more about the city of Hsinchu, being a place that was meant to be “passed by”. This led to references of recent research about the city by LDT and the integration of their findings in their performances. Additionally, the application through performance has brought into account a macro perspective of issues around Taiwan as a whole. This includes humanistic connotation, social values and ideology.
