     Description

In response to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic—at a time when international travel remained largely unavailable and large gatherings in enclosed spaces had to be avoided—Lei Dance Theater sought to channel the company’s creative energy toward the development of outdoor, site-responsive theatre.

The project envisioned dance performances taking place in any corner of Hsinchu, actively approaching audiences through artistic encounters embedded more closely within everyday life. By reaching local communities across Hsinchu, the project aimed not only to enrich cultural life and offer new experiences through the arts, but also to allow Lei Dance Theater’s performers and artists to continue creating and challenging their physical capacities during the pandemic.

Through Taiwan Barbet, the company also sought to cultivate a broader audience for the arts in the Hsinchu region and build the artistic and production experience required to develop future long-running performances at distinctive local sites.
